What a great day for a bike ride! We had 11 people; 10 Trailblazers and a man in the parking lot who asked  if he could join our group and ride with us. The weather was perfect. It was a leisurely ride and everyone rode at their own pace with 2-3 people in a group at a time, chatting and peddling together.

When we got to the nature preserve just south of rte 510 we rested , enjoyed some snacks and sandwiches and took some pictures, before heading off again. Instead of going back the same way, we decided to ride on the scenic trails through the woods, which brought us across A1A to the ocean. It was so peaceful and pretty there overlooking the waves crashing in.

Upon returning to the starting point, some of us walked along the boardwalk to the Pelican Island veiwing platform. Pelican Island is the FIRST wildlife refuge/nature preserve established  in the USA. On the boardwalk, every other slat of wood is engraved with the name of a Nature Preserve or wildlife refuge  somewhere in the US. in order by year opened, starting with the most current date.

At the end of the walk, on the top of the platform, the last entry is Pelican Island Wildlife refuge, established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. The town of Sebastian celebrates the refuge with an annual Pelican Island Wildlife Festival, which just happend on March 14th.
